About Cairns Farm

A legacy of heartfelt heritage

History

Cairns Farm has been in the Hamilton Family for four generations. What started as a hill sheep farm, home to Scottish Blackface ewes has evolved over the decades welcoming Highland cattle, rescue hens and even alpacas.  Now owned and farmed by Graham and Caroline, Cairns Farm has seen lots of changes over the years.

Within the ground, you will find Cairns Castle, steeped in history dating back to the 15th Century.  Much of the stone originally used to build the Castle was repurposed and now makes up the main body of the Farmhouse.

Graham and Caroline continue the legacy created by many generations before them of hill farming while adding their own touch for future generations to enjoy.

A new chapter begins

In 2017, we sat down as a family to chart a sustainable future for the estate. We wanted to create something that would complement our hill farm and inspire our children to get involved. The idea for an exclusive-use event venue was born, transforming the old sheep shed into a stunning space that you see today.

After years of planning, the venue opened in 2020. Staying true to its roots, the converted shed beautifully blends heritage with modern design. Scots Pine and Sycamore from the grounds were transformed into handcrafted furnishings while stones from the original shed were repurposed to build the iconic Great Wall between the Stables and the Gathering Hall, among other features. A legacy reimagined!

Sustaining our future

Sustainability and community are at the heart of our purpose; our stunning fused glass windows were crafted locally, the furnishings are sourced from nearby interior designers, and our catering partners are chosen for their delicious locally sourced produce, packed with goodness.

So many hands have helped shape our offering, all adding warmth and character to our space.

Everything we do at Cairns Farm honours nature. Throughout the Barn, you’ll find nods to our agricultural heritage, including tables made from Scots Pine planted by great-grandfather William 150 years ago. We’re not just celebrating our heritage; we’re crafting a sustainable future!
